Dark textures and expansive pads synthesiser
Designed for versatile dark ambient and cinematic sound design, Wraith is a synthesiser for pads, drones and synthetic textures. Fill out the background of your production with an expansive pad, or create tension with an atonal drone, or even write a whole underscore sequence using Wraith. This product works inside our sample-based-synthesis VST/AU, Mirage (free download).
Wraith is made up of 230 synthetic instruments combining unsettling textures and drones with tranquil atmospheres. These are arranged into three categories: drones, tonal pads, and textures. This massive collection of instruments range from bleak and dissonant to ethereal and serene. As well as these instruments, any of the 80 included presets can be effortlessly customised using Mirage’s features. With it, you can mix three different layers, apply LFOs, envelopes, filters and a whole rack of effects to create the exact unique sound that you need.

Carlos Butler, who is also known for his sound design project, Temporal Geometry, created the samples of Wraith. For Wraith he has drawn from years of experience as a composer of ambient and cinematic music which he releases under the name Rildrim. His skill for tonality and for making samples that can be used in a practical, musical way shine through in this library.

Layer together sounds for complex soundscapes and pads
Wraith is designed for layering – combining different sounds within the synthesiser to create new timbres. This can be intuitively done with the engine that powers it, Mirage or Floe (beta). Three layers are arranged across the GUI, each containing numerous controls for customising the character of that part.
The three instrument categories of Wraith have been designed to complement each other. This makes building your own sounds easy. Firstly, the drones category primarily features dark and ominous instruments characterised by gritty low-end, rich drones full of depth, granular harmonic content, and sometimes even atonal clusters.
Secondly, the tonal category features primarily harmonic and melodic pads. You again might find sounds with an unsettling edge, but on the whole, you will find pads with entrancing and silky tones. Finally, there is the textures category which contains noise and dissonant instruments. It acts as the glue between the drone and tonal sounds.
Adding these layers together is where Wraith shines. Rich, complex soundscapes can be created with ease. But likewise, with the use of per-layer EQ, filters and tasteful mixing, subtle and intricate textures are well within Wraiths capabilities too.
80 production-ready presets
Wraith is excellent for finding or creating the perfect unsettling or even alluring pad/drone sound for your production. It makes this easy for you by facilitating easy trialling and customisation of the 80 included presets. These presets can be loaded either entirely randomly, or randomly within a category. The instruments in each preset can also be randomly chosen at the click of a button. This means you can retain the settings and effects of a preset but try completely different source instruments.
Uncharted sound design
Something to be aware of with Wraith is that some of the instruments of Wraith are multi-tonal, meaning a single sound has multiple pitches in one note. This is by design. We have found that this results in an unsettling character that is hard to recreate with single-pitch sounds. Such instruments are invaluable for laying down a bed of tense atmosphere from which you can build on top of using more harmonically-precise instrumentation.
Overall, this is an excellent collection of sounds to add to your palette if you’re on the lookout for new and fresh modern cinematic tools capable of taking your music to obscure and uncharted places.

Mirage’s capabilities include:
