Organic, alive and earthy – Terracotta is a unique melodic-percussion instrument made from terracotta pots. This instrument's charming bell-like tones are ideal for adding tangible vibrancy to percussion sections, arpeggios and melodic lines. It runs inside Floe — which provides a flexible 3-layer structure for blending sounds plus all the features you'd expect from a modern synth, such as filters, envelopes and effects. 25 different pots were sampled to create this instrument, featuring 4 round robin and 4 velocity layers. Terracotta also includes a handful of 'mixer' instruments designed to be blended with the main sound, plus 40 presets for instant production-ready results.
Terracotta can be used to bring a unique liveliness to melodic lines and rhythmic arpeggios. The 25 terracotta pots that make up this product’s core sound are diverse in size and structure; some are old handmade victorian pots while others are smooth and modern. The resonation tone of the pot is consistent but there are intricate differences between them that, when combined, creates an instrument that has a beautifully diverse sound.
Each recording was carefully edited, tuned and mapped to a region on the keyboard. These regions were then combined into a full instrument that’s playable all the way from the lowest note to the highest note. You can also blend in some of the included ‘mixer’ sounds to create new tones. These include sounds such as a resonating large ceramic bowl, a music box and a plucked steel string.
The engine offers all the control you need for this sampled instrument. You can dial in the sound exactly as you need it in your track; change the ADSR envelope for the volume, add some reverb or add punch with the compressor.

Terracotta runs inside Floe, FrozenPlain’s free, open-source sample library player and the direct successor to the Mirage engine.
Key features:
Floe requires either a Windows or macOS computer with music production software that can run a CLAP, VST3, or AU audio plugin (such as: Logic Pro, Reaper, Ableton Live, Cubase, FL Studio, Studio One, Reason, and many more). See Floe's requirements page for additional details.
Here's what's included in Terracotta. You'll receive a Floe package. The installed size is similar to the ZIP size due to our use of modern lossless compression.

The Floe version of Terracotta maintains the original Kontakt samples, with minor tuning adjustments and changes to the Celeste instrument. Both engines offer similar capabilities, but the Floe version may provide a faster sound design workflow and an easier-to-use interface that matches other FrozenPlain products. Floe will see continued development and improvements. Additionally, the new version includes 40 new presets.
