Dark Otherworlds

Haunting, eerie and alien atmospheres

For the moments in a score when something isn't of this world. Haunting drones and pads, eerie tones reimagined from real recordings, and gritty transmissions from deep space — three dark libraries that sit naturally together, ready for horror, sci-fi and dark ambient music.

Dark tones, rich textures

Widen your palette for dark scoring with this collection: slow-moving drones and pads that hold several pitches in a single note (Wraith), sombre keys and eerie textures reshaped from harps, flutes, rain, and tornado sirens (Deep Conjuring), and gritty, undulating tones pulled out of noise like transmissions from deep space (Isolated Signals).

Ready-made or your own

All three run in Floe, so you can stack them across its layers or play each one on its own. There are over 400 presets in total, from tense horror underscores to cold, distant sci-fi and dark ambient backdrops, and over 500 instruments to design your own sounds from. Wraith was crafted by composer and sound designer Carlos Butler; Deep Conjuring and Isolated Signals were designed with Beautiful Void Audio.

Floe complete interface
Floe's 3-layer architecture blending multiple sample libraries

Layer across libraries

Blend instruments from any library in a single patch. Floe's three-layer architecture, each with its own controls, allow for creating hybrid textures.

Floe per-layer arpeggiator interface

Per-layer arpeggiators

New in v2

Create advanced rhythmic performances. Each layer can run its own arpeggiator — different rates, rhythms and patterns playing against each other.

Floe's granular synthesis playback controls

Granular synthesis

New in v2

Stretch, freeze and reshape any instrument into evolving clouds and textures — even multisampled instruments.

Floe's reorderable professional effects rack

Pro effects rack

Eleven high-quality, reorderable effects — including pro-standard reverb and delay, and covolution reverb with creative IRs.

Floe macro knobs connected to multiple parameters

Built for the studio

Four macro knobs for expressive performance of multiple parameters. MIDI CC, sustain pedel, undo/redo, A/B comparison for preset edits, visual EQs and a random variation generator.

Free and open source

Free and open source

Floe is a companion project to FrozenPlain — totally free and open source for longevity and ethical service to the music-making community.

Originals

Carefully updated for Floe, this library was originally made for Mirage, Floe's predecessor.

  • Fully tagged and perfectly updated to new Floe format
  • Seamlessly use the instruments in all of Floe's new features
  • Its factory presets predate Floe's new features, so don't feature macros, preset descriptions, the arpeggiator or granular synthesis
