Ancient Chordophone is a Kontakt 5 plucked string library. The sound could be described as an organic-hybrid guitar. It is not designed to be a 'real' instrument, but rather a fun and useful sound. It's great for atmospheric stuff and for making rhythms using the included arpeggiator. It's a useful addition to your sound collection for only a tiny price of $9.
The samples for Ancient Chordophone actually originate from an acoustic guitar, however they are not quite what you would expect. A lot of experimentation has been done to capture a different type of sound, for example; tightening the strings right up or using hammers or playing very short strings.
Included in this library are 20 presets, these are all variations of the sound, but some feature other morphed samples. For example the sustained patches are edited so the sound rings on, making a pad like atmosphere. There are also strings and synths pads on some, which can be controlled with the mod wheel.
The libraries plucky sound works well as a rhythmic element to your track, adding a sort of hybrid-organic sound. It is suitable for any genre and can be tweaked and altered with the controls to help it fit your needs.
Ancient Chordophone has 3 pages of scripting, some of which you may recognise. It is very easy to use. The first page has a convolution reverb effect with a drop down menu to select the IR, there is also a random control, which adds a random delay to the start time of the notes. Attack/Release and Low/ High are just as you would expect.
The next page is the arpeggiator, this has 6 presets that you can save to and load from. The smaller buttons adjacent to the LOAD button are the save buttons (SA), pressing these will save your current pattern to that slot.
Finally, is the effects page which has the 4 effects that are from the product MoarEffects. The menus at the top right of the delay and reverb are presets.
As part of Ancient Chordophone, you get 13 core patches and 7 other patches. You can tell which ones are different samples by the number prefix. For example the 02 variations use different samples and sound different to the 04 patches.
